I have a tattoo of a spiderweb on my left elbow and it is not covering more than 1/4 of the exposed
body part, however I recently heard that I would get DQed at MEPS because it is a racial/gang tattoo?I called my recruiter and he said It would be reviewed on a case by case basis. I have no criminal record at all and I scoed an 80 on the ASVAB is that what is meant by case by case?
What is the Air Force's policy on tattoos?
For Air Force members, tattoos and/or brands anywhere on the body that are obscene or advocate sexual, racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination are prohibited in and out of uniform.Any tattoos and/or brand prejudicial to good order and discipline or of a nature that tends to bring discredit upon the Air Force are prohibited in and out of uniform. An Air Force member is not allowed to display excessive tattoos that would detract from an appropriate professional image while in uniform. Excessive tattoos are tattoos which cover over 25% of the body part. - Taken from Air Force.com. So if it is a " racial/ gang Tattoo ", then I think that it's not going to go well, it sucks, I know. But I would just keep checking the web, and/or keep asking High Ranking people in the Air Force, like a SrA? Or a TSgt? I hope that it works out for you in the long run.
