No room to loosen a power steering hose?
I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 with a "zetec" motor. The pressure line coming off the power steering pump is leaking. I took of several hose clamps and radiator hose to get to it. The pressure hose is oviously the problem, it is loose and I can wiggle it and I can see it is leaking there. The problem is I can't remove the PS pump because the return line is in the way of one of the bolts. The only wrench I can fit in there is a 6 inch adjustable wrench, and I can't put enough touque on that to loosen it, or even tighten it. Please help!
To access the pressure line fitting on this particular application, requires the use of an 18mm "crow's foot" and a long 3/8" drive extension (preferably wobble) with a ratchet, accessed from underneath the vehicle. Once you have removed the line fitting, you will be able to remove the four 10mm bolts that secure the pump to the block. Are you sure it's the line fitting that's leaking? Check to make sure it's not the pump itself that's leaking. It is common for them to leak from the shaft seal. Just be aware that you will also need the proper power steering pump pulley remover/installer tool if you replace the pump. Hope this helps.
