how does the coil spring compressor work?

I have a 1989 caprice and I'm looking to remove the stock springs and add new heavy duty springs which is going to give me a 2in lift. I have the spring compressor which is installed inbetween the spring and then it's compressed, but once it's on the car, how would i remove the spring compressor?

Just back off the compressor.
