how do i activate an extra cable outlet without spliting the line from my other cable jack?
I have a cable provider and they have split my line using a spliter.
I have a second tv near a cable jack thats not active by the company, is it possible for me to activate it?
The active box has a line runing and split by a 3 way spliter running to my tv,modem and house phone.
are there such things as 4 way spliters? and will it affect my other services?

Yes, 4 way splitters are easy to obtain from Lowes or the Home depot. I like the Home depot gear better. It will run you about 8-9 bucks. Moving from 3 way to 4 way will give you an additional reduction of 1.5 dB on every line which is tolerable so your existing services should not be impacted.

Funny. I just got done from cabling my bedroom and guest rooms.
The best way to activate a jack is to run a wire from it to where your existing splitter is. Usually, the cable company puts the splitter to the house in the garage or the attic. If the splitter they gave you is two way, replace it with a three way and fish the cable through your walls. If it is already 3 way, replace it with a 4 way, etc..
If you never had a splitter, then you can just buy one and insert it in the line.
Now, remember something key. Cable is an RF signal. When you split it, you weaken it by 3 db (half the power). It is always better to split once as close to the source as possible. Do the math, a 3 way splitter reduces each signal by a third or about 4.5 dB while two cascading two way splitters will actualy reduce one signal by only 3 dB (half the power) and the other two signals (coming out of the second splitter) by (3+3 = 6 dB). So your signals will now be much weaker at the output of the cascaded splitter than the output of the first splitter.
Also RF signals reflect waves at every junction. This implies having multiple splices will cause your signal to get noisy. This is why your cable tech tends to run a long cable all the way back to the source than splice into an existing cable.
Finally, one word of caution about the type of splitter you need to buy. You sill see some cheap splitters at the stores, avoid them. Most digital cable now goes to 1 GHz so make sure your new splitter is rated up to that frequency for a clear signal.
