General purpose wheel chocks
Auto mechanic shops, when they are set up correctly, will have a couple of general purpose wheel chocks in the shop to keep a car being worked on from rolling away. The potential for pain on the part of the mechanic, or in damage to other cars or property is too great to not have wheel chocks. An automobile can weigh from 3,000 pounds for a compact car to a mini van, SUV or truck that can weigh 5,000 to 7,000 pounds. Accident History
Unfortunately, there have been injuries and even deaths caused by missing wheel chocks. In the fall of 2010, a contractor mechanic who came to work on a truck at a Texas above ground mine was killed. The vehicle was idling and supposedly the parking brake was engaged, yet when the man was under the truck looking for a leak, the vehicle slipped out of gear and crushed the man's chest and moved on to run into a building. This example is just one of many. It is meant to encourage the use of a wheel chocks when under an auto, especially if it is still running, as often is the case in an auto mechanic shop.
General Purpose Wheel Chocks Use
The use of chocks is simple and easy, and one must get used to putting them in place every time a car is worked on, much like putting on a seatbelt. Many chocks, including those made using reaction injection molding (RIM) technology, have the instructions for using the chock molded right into the chock itself, along with a handy handle to pick it up and put it in place, as well as easy removal. Many of the smaller chocks that are not used for off-road or industrial uses such as mining and construction are triangular in shape and can be placed with either side of the chock on the tire as well. The basic steps in using general purpose wheel chocks are:
• Make sure the chock is the correct size for the vehicle being worked on. A general purpose wheel chock will work on most compact cars, sedans and mini-vans, but a truck with oversized wheels may be too large for a 4 ½" wheel chock. • Put the vehicle's transmission in Park and set the emergency brake. If the engine is to be running, it may be best to chock both sides of the back axle of the car – meaning four wheel chocks may be used.
• Position the chocks snugly against the ground surface and the center of the tire tread. • Be sure to remove the chocks before moving the auto. For owners of independent shops or those that like to work on their own cars on the weekend, take heed and invest in at least a couple of chocks. With a general purpose wheel chock firmly in place between the ground and the tire of the vehicle, the potential for it to roll is stopped, saving the mechanic, the car owner and the person or person's property that it runs into.

Best general purpose lens for the Canon 350D and Canon 400D?
I am planning to pickup the Canon 350D or Canon 400D. What is the best general purpose lens ? Is the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens fine? or is it better to go with say the Tamron 18-200mm Di-II?
I don't think that there is an easy answer here without knowing some more about what your interests are. The standard lens covers a useful range of wide-angle to normal and the shorter telephoto range, so it will always be a useful lens. It is likely to be less bulky than the 18-200mm, but you need to make the assessment yourself whether it will be too awkward for some circumstances.
That said, I use a Tamron 28-200mm on a film body when I want a one lens solution to cover a broad range of work when I am travelling. When I a home based, I tend to use a smaller lens, say a 35-70mm or 35-105mm on the camera, with a longer zoom (50-150mm or 70-210mm) in my camera bag.
So, if I were in a similar situation, and only going to get one lens, I would have a preference for the 18-200mm over the kit lens.
