How furniture dolly helps in moving homes
If you're planning on moving homes you might be wondering which way is going to be faster and less stressful. Having to shift all your furniture and belongings is going to be a chore and you can either invite a few friends and family members round to do the job yourself or pay a hefty sum of cash for a professional moving service. Doing it alone will save you a nice bit of cash to spend on your family later, your expenses will include, transportation, packing materials, boxes and of course a furniture dolly or two.
If everything in your home had wheels on it moving would be so simple, but they don't so the next best thing is a good quality furniture dolly. These great devices allow a few people to move a lot of heavy objects in less time and with minimal effort. 1 or 2 people will be able to shift sofas, refrigerators and cabinets without any problems.
If you're new to house moving then you might not know what a furniture dolly is yet. There are various forms of this time saving tool, one form is called a hand truck, which looks like a baggage trolley that you see porters at train stations or airports using to help customers. It is roughly 6 foot tall and comes with a long adjustable back frame; the bottom plat is usually flat so that it can easily fit under the item of furniture. If you're still unsure what this looks like it is in the shape of an L with 2 wheels on the corner, so when a large item is resting on the bottom platform all you need to do is lean back towards yourself and wheel it along.
Another type of furniture dolly and the most popularly used form is made up of a flat square or rectangular board usually made from wood, but it can also be just a plastic or metal frame. This base plate has 4 or more swivel coaster wheels attached to the bottom side for easy moving. Using the furniture dolly is simple, but two people are needed to get the item on top of the plate; the piece of furniture needs to be lifted up on one side while the dolly is wedge into the gap underneath. The other side is then pushed so that the item lands with its weight evenly spread over the platform. This type of dolly is best used on large pieces of furniture with flat square shaped bases; oddly shaped items might require two dollies to be used.
The last type of furniture dolly that I will mention is a new design that has no wheels and is made from a light weight flexible material. This furniture coaster is made from large bits of very smooth material that has rubber on one side to grip to the bottom side of the furniture. To use the coasters simply lift up each side separately and slide the material under the item, the smooth material will reduce the friction between the item and the floor allowing you easily move large objects with little pressure. This new device works only on carpet, vinyl and tile, so use is limited to inside the house only.

lifting in the first trimester...?
i'm around six weeks pregnant. my work entails carrying boxes between 1 and 30 (sometimes a little more than 30) lbs from a truck to a designated area on the floor. then from the floor to my work station. on busy days i'll have to do around 40 to 50 boxes and on really slow days we might get in 10 boxes. the busy days are only the first full week of the month (5 days; m-f) and the rest of the month goes down in number of boxes. what is a safe weight to lift? also, my work does provide dollies and carts which have wheels. but both still require me to do some lifting.
In my last pregnancy I lifted up to 40lbs. in the first trimester, I managed a little store and had to stock the shelves when the truck came. slowly i stopped lifting heavy stuff, by the 3rd trimester i wouldnt lift over 20 lbs.
