Life of the cash drawer is counted in million of cycles of opening and closing, but when you buy the cash drawer ensure that you look at durability of the cash drawer i.e. lock mechanism, ball bearing and springs etc.
Buying a heavy duty one will ensure a high level of security and a level of durability. The prices for POS cash drawers on the market ranges anywhere from around A$100 to A$500. There are some flip top cash drawers, which can be connected to computer or docket printer.
You will also need to note the size if your cash counter and select the cash drawer accordingly, because some cash drawer could be bulky and need lot of space. Best is to get exact dimensions of the cash drawer before you buy this. In normal circumstances you would remove the key from the cash drawer and keep it safe because it can be opened thru docket printer and some software also gives you the information as to how many times cash drawer was opened.
Some cash drawer does not need any computer or docket printer and can be opened by a push button. All it needs is a power supply and a push button. Every time you push the button either with your hand or foot it opens the cash drawer.

Some cash drawer can operate independent of POS software this means you can connect a cash drawer to USB or serial port of your computer without having POS software. Best is to check with your POS vendor before you make a decision. It should have more than enough bill and coin slots and trays and the access to them should be easy. You can buy smaller or larger cash drawers and you should choose the model that suits your already existing POS terminal, if you are buying the terminal and the cash drawer separately. In which store in Irvine, can I find drawer/cabinet locks?
This is because my childs keeps on opening the drawers and cabinets and taking out things and messing the house..Pls note that I donot want to order online since I want to physically see the product first before purchase.
The usual stores are Home Depot and Lowes. You also have a number of smaller hardware stores in Irvine. I've been in Crown Hardware at 18102 Culver, and they have quite a variety. Sometimes though it is difficult getting help, they are so busy.
