tactical rifles - remington 700 models?
Im considering putting together a tactical rifle together similar to the Remington's 700 USR (urban sniper rifle) I know the costs involved will hurt, with the scope alone is very expensive as well as the modular accessory rail system (MARS) and the stock (HS precision -PST25). First things first, the rifle is going to be a rem700 but the model im not sure of. Im considering a varmint in .308 with a fluted barrel or the 700P/LTR im not that keen on the 20" barrel so im more opted for a 26" because i know that i will be taking up competitive shooting in the near future. If someone could recomend me a good rifle to fulfil this posistion. Another thing is that i know most rifles these days, or at least the rem700 come with floor plates(BDL)after one with a detachable magazine. i've reserched some conversion kits, and im familar h-s precision make some nice ones. If anyone could help me with this i would appreciate it and also recommend a good gunsmith/shop - im from victoria.
thanks!
Looks like you got all the basics down here. The Remington 700 action is a great platform for any rifle. If you are intent on using a Remington barrel then I would recommend a 700 PSS (Police Sharp Shooter) as your base gun. It already has the HS Precision Stock on it and a 26" bull barrel. They shoot really well out of the box. I have shot mine out to 600yds with the gun holding better then 1 moa. However, If you really want a tac driver then you should only get a 700 action blueprinted and a Mike Rock or Krieger barrel. Call GA Precision and have George build you your dream gun. He is one of the best smiths in the country. He will mate your barreled action with a stock of your choice. Also the MARS system is awesome, but adds a good deal of weight to your gun. Unless you are planning on using nightvision or thermal imaging I would suggest using a badger ordinance rail. You can get them with a 20moa slope to help you reach out to 1000 yards. Also, I would recommend the Badger Ordinance detachable magazine in stead of the HS mag. I think they are build better and give better rigidity to the gun. Good luck.
