Holiday Gift Ideas for Breakfast Lovers
For anyone whose favorite meal is breakfast, than a unique gift this holiday season or for any special occasion throughout the year is an Ebleskiver Pan or a Waffle Iron. It has been said that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" and what better way to start the day than with some delicious round pancakes called Ebelskivers (or Aebleskiver as some spell it) or a light, fluffy Belgian waffle topped with your favorite berries. There are several quality brands and styles to choose from on both the unique Ebelskiver Pan and the best Waffle Iron for the special person on your gift list.
Ebelskivers are Danish pancakes that are usually filled with your favorite jam, fruit or even cheese. I prefer mine plain; however, made with buttermilk in the batter. The eggs are separated and the whites are whipped fluffy to fold into the batter for the lightest ebelskivers you have ever tasted. The pans were originally only available in cast iron, but now several manufacturers make them out of a non-stick, cast aluminum which is much lighter than the heavy cast iron pan. Once the oil in the wells of the Ebelskiver Pan is hot, than it just takes minutes to make the pancakes. I sprinkle them while hot with powder sugar and serve them with fresh strawberry preserves.
The best waffle iron to select for the breakfast lover you are purchasing for will depend on the type of waffle you will end up with. The history of the waffle goes back to medieval times when street vendors would make flat "waffle-like" cakes on irons over fire to sell. Today there are several types of waffles and waffle irons to make the different types of waffles. There is a classic or American style waffle that is the most common type of waffle we are most familiar with. Next would be the thick Belgian waffle that can also be served as a dessert waffle. Many of the best waffle irons for the Belgian waffle are the flip-style waffle iron which cooks evenly on both sides of the waffle. Lastly, the Scandinavian heart-shaped waffle irons are my favorite, especially as the perfect gift for a wedding or anniversary gift.
Either one of these wonderful Ebelskiver pan or waffle iron gift ideas will be a hit with the recipient, especially if they love to cook and breakfast is one of their favorite meals. Just remember though either ebleskivers or waffles make wonderful desserts also or for anytime of the day!

The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.
