Is an adaptor needed to use a screw in compression guage on jeep 4.0 6 cyl engine?
We have had no luck getting a 14mm standard guage to screw in to any of the spark plug holes. Holding the male end next to a spark plug, there is a wide 'shoulder' just past the threads-while the spark plug narrows immediately for the electrode.
Do we need a different 14 mm 'longer' thread end? We did check both the spark plug and guage in an adaptor that came with it for other size-and both threaded in fine.
Cannot even get the threads to start at all in the block.
Yes, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about and no, two different gauges adapters would not fit.
Go to the Help section of your local auto parts store. They sell a spark plug extention that was and is used ( SNAKE OIL!!) to prevent blown by oil from fowling the plugs. It is around 2" long and you are suppose to screw it into the head with a small hole in it and the spark plug into the other end.. Waste of money,,,but it does work VERY well for this problem.
