Granite Countertops: Pros and Cons

Granite countertops are among the most expensive for the simple reason that they irradiate beauty. They are cut from natural slabs and come in color patterns as diverse as human fingerprints. Needless to say, there are no two identical slabs in the whole world! Granite comes in quite a wide palette of colors: red, brown, blue, green, beige, yellow, black, etc.

Slabs feature tiny crystals of quartz naturally ingrained in them. These crystals form exquisite veined or mottled patterns, which may catch light and shine. There is hardly a type of countertop to beat granite countertops in aesthetic value.

To top off the stone's natural charming iridescence, it is unarguably one of the strongest natural stones on earth. Besides, granite is very heat-resistant. Therefore, granite countertops boast enviable durability.

Granite countertops are relatively easy to care for. They are best clean with soap and other detergents. Granite is impervious to even aggressive detergents. With due care and maintenance, granite countertops retain their divine beauty for decades.

Well, considering all these pros, you may still wonder if there are reasons why you should not buy a granite counter. Just like everything on earth, granite does have its own reverse side of the coin.

Granite is expensive. For this reason, granite counters are not affordable for everyone. Transportation and installation requires professional experience; chances are it will cost you more than the countertop itself. It may crack unless you handle or install it properly.

Since there are no uniform patterns for granite counters and most of them are composed of several slabs, seams may be way too conspicuous. This is not for you if you appreciate uniform colors. Choosing the right color for your granite is for the rest of your life. If you ever have to replace your counter, you will never find one of the same color.

Granite is porous and therefore vulnerable to stains. Unless removed immediately, stains may penetrate deep into the stone and become indelible. If you apply a sealant over stained surface, the stains will be there for good.

Where can i get cheap sealant for a wooden boat?

I have a boat that needs new sealant but the Bass pro shop near my house is expensive and they sell it in little amounts. I need to redo the whole sealant so I need it cheap and i nee alot of it

West Marine or Boater's World, might even check an RV supply store. Another source to check will surprise you WalMart.

Do not use silicone below the waterline.
