General pointers for towing a caravan trailer using your new Honda
It isn't too difficult but if you are completely new to pulling a trailer then it can be a little over-whelming. The number one problem is becoming comfortable with the added length of the trailer and how best to tow it with a new vehicle.
So if you are going on a road trip, then here are a few things to remember to ensure you have a safe trip in your Honda and feel a bit more in control when towing a trailer, as generated.
1) Firstly, take a flick through the manual. A trailer should have their own manual or maybe just a safety sticker on the side, which will tell you what type of car you need to successfully tow your trailer. Then check your Honda manual as you don't want to overload your Honda's engine.
2) Then, ensure that the trailer has a hitch package. This package is a system to attach your car batter to your camper or trailer electronic. This system is a must have feature as it provides the electricity to the lights on the trailer, ensuring that other drivers are aware that you are on the road.
3) Make sure you have a good view from your Honda. This may involve mirrored extenders for your wing mirrors so that you can see the length of the trailer and also give you some idea of what other road users are doing, which is especially important with motorcycle users. On a road trip the last thing you want to do is have an accident, have to sort out insurance details and even cause serious injuries.
4) Before you put the key in the car you should have an inspection. This should involve a thorough inspection of the trailer fittings and connection points. It will include: checking hitch wiring is long enough to account for turns, checking the pressure of tyres, attaching the equalizer and stabilizer, ensuring that the caravan or trailer is balanced and adjust the trailer tongue so that it is in the correct position.
5) Before you put the key in the engine make sure your belongings are securely in place. This is so important because you don't want to be driving along, get to your destination and then find all of your plates on the floor and all cracked up into a hundred pieces.
6) When going down a hill ensure you don't go fast. Switch to a lower gear and then gently go down the hill, it is the only safe way to deal with inclines and declines in the road.
7) As you reverse you should not stress-out but instead take your time. In the event of steering then the subtlest of moves on the wheel can damage the caravan or camper and destroy the tow bar, making it unusable.
You need to change your driving style to avoid tight and abrupt turns. Your driving really needs to be subtle and fluid and steering wheels movements need to be made earlier rather than later, this is the best way to make sure you are safer during your driving holiday.
9) Lastly, most Hondas should be find to tow a trailer but if you feel uncomfortable then it might be a good idea to hire or lease a newer Honda instead. For example, when I went camping I took out a Honda contract leasing deal that was more appropriate for my driving holiday.

It says on the data plate...if the data plate is missing then the trailer is not roadworthy. with that said the weight should be 1125 lbs with the trailer unloaded, no gear, no water, no propane, just the trailer itself as it was shipped from the factory.
